 Revealing the Art of Poetry

with Kathleen Driskell, Ellyn Lichvar, Mark Webb, and N D Hazlett

Sunday, October 12th at 4pm

Poets have always used art for inspiration; from sections of Homer’s Iliad, to Billy Collins’ Fishing on the Susquehanna in July

The editors of A NARROW FELLOW Journal of Poetry have turned the ekphrasis method upside down around and on its ear, commissioning Louisville artist N D Hazlett to create a series of visual artistic pieces based on contemporary poetry.

The editors selected 15 poems from over 2,000 submissions, and N D Hazlett created 15 original pieces based on her interpretations of the poems.

N D Hazlett used ekphrasis as a rhetorical device for her art, defining and describing the essence and form of the poems. The result is a stunning collection of art in several media:
The Ekphrasis Art of N D Hazlett: Revealing the Art of Poetry

Kathleen Driskell and Ellyn Lichvar of Spalding University (who have poems represented in the project) will read their poems and speak on the ekphrasis process and tradition, and the artist N D Hazlett will talk about the project, her artistic vision, and her interpretation of the poems by Kathleen and Ellyn. The two pieces of art based on poems by Kathleen and Ellyn will be exhibited, and the newest issue of A NARROW FELLOW - featuring the art and poems - will be available for sale at Carmichael’s. The editors, artist, and poets will also be available to sign copies of the journal
